I would highly recommend the work Juan Donoso Cortes, basically predicted the transformation from classical-liberalism to socialism around 1848 in his "Essays on Catholicism, Liberalism, and Socialism." It is largely on this subject and greatly influence both Bl. Pius IX and Leo XIII on the matter.
