During the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris earlier this month, Trump dropped an off the cuff remark which has since become the most hotly contested part of the whole affair. It was, of course, about the situation in Springfield, Ohio, where Haitian immigrants are reportedly stealing, killing, and eating local pets and wildlife.
Admittedly, at first I did not think much of the remark and thought it was a funny one liner. However, the next day I found my social media feeds filled with videos documenting these happenings. One particularly gruesome video involves a police officer catching and arresting a woman allegedly in the act of eating a cat. Let’s be clear though: they are, without question, eating cats.
The dissonance between citizen and local news and national media coverage has been made clear in this debate. Local outlets across Ohio were reporting that this was indeed a very real problem and they were supported by local residents taking to social media with their grievances. National media outlets, however, were pushing out fact-check article after fact-check with the same copy-paste rhetoric of “racist misinformation.”
The media being full of itself is nothing new. What is particularly interesting is their inability to let this one go and as a result they kept it in the national headlines for a week that immigrants are barbarically eating the pets of Ohio residents. Why? This is classic Trump 2016 rhetoric — a criticism of mass immigration and its consequences (which goes far behind just the survival of our pets).
Like in 2016, Trump shirking the advice of “political advisors” has allowed him to do something sensational and energize the base. If Trump wants to win in November, he needs to keep running this playbook. The message is simple: “Your cat is next.” He needs to run this race by playing to his base, who are the electorate in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Any inroads Trump was making with electoral minorities, women, independents, or Democrats went up in smoke the moment Democrats got someone they could be excited about.
This rhetoric, paired with Trump’s recent talk about trade and reindustrialization, will match the moment of this election. Remember, Kamala is corrupt and crooked, just like Hillary. Focus on that point. Keep talking about the clashing of cultures and mass immigration. Talk about no more foreign wars and putting America First. Talk about globalism. Talk about nationalism. Talk about assassination attempts. Bring back American Carnage.
All the right people will love it, and all the wrong people will hate it — just like in 2016, when we won. We will win again in November.

The rumor in Springfield was started by a woman who later found her cat alive in her own basement.
You can do better, folks.
Almost as bad as the "we can't allow them to steal the election again" post.
I'm inclined to support postliberal political projects, but these kids are completely undermining the movement with their apathy toward the truth. One more post like this and I plan to unsubscribe.
